Theoretically, I go snowshoeing in the mornings to prepare trails for the coming weeks, when increased temperatures will make it hard to use the logging roads for sledding. But letting the dogs loose and pottering around in the woods is its own reward.
This seems to be good exercise for the dogs, a full body workout. They seem roughly as exhausted after half an hour of this, as after an hour of pulling.
Photogenic as mushing may be, and check out my friend Kristines pictures for verification, it's impossible to take any interesting pictures in the dark while on the sled. You're either mushing or you're taking pictures. Snowshoeing, it's a lot easier to snap away.
