This cabin of mine was built in 1964. When I bought it seven years ago, it seemed almost completely unused. There were two bunches of magazines there, one from 1966 and one from 1986. Maybe that was when the people who owned this before me had major marital crises.
There were also some wonderfully retro consumer goods here. Including three examples of what today seems like stunningly inappropriate "Aunt Jemima"-style branding. Here's some stove polish:
It could have been worse. It could have been like this.
Here's some ground pepper:
This company still exists, with the same name. Their eponymous symbol was redesigned and made more conventionally attractive, but in the end they gave up on this whole business with depicting a young gentleman from balmier climes and settled for plain lettering instead.
There was also some food colouring here:
I pasted the guys from the oven polish and the food colouring in my "Book of dreams", basically just a notebook where I've scrawled plans for all the awesome stuff I've planned to do here (below).
Flipping through it now I see that some of my projects have indeed come to fruition. Most of them, of course, have not. What would be the point otherwise.

This stuff is so unnerving. I'm glad this overt racist merchandising is pretty much banned everywhere. We are all brothers and sisters, no matter where on earth we are, with no one group of people superior or inferior, and it always is disturbing to see anything that smacks of prejudice or racism.
