For transport in The Towns, I use an American 1948 "The World"-bicycle. It has a heavy, fillet-brazed frame, no gears, rear coaster brake and front hub brake. The front hub is almost certainly retrofitted.
It feels really wonderful, but getting spare parts is not always easy The cable to the front brake (top) isn't supposed to be fastened like that, but what are you going to do. It is also hard to find bike shops willing to open up those hubs and replace the brake shoes.

Not nearly as beautiful as the dogs, but still...those parts have a beauty all their own. Especially to us bike freaks...

When you notice your friends like looking at wheel hubs too... is that a good or a bad sign?
I'm sure there's a reason you haven't made a crimp at the point where the cable meets the brake, so you can use a normal cable. Is it just to difficult to make sure it'd work and be safe?
