Well, here's a day of some significance in a musher's diary.
All summer, I've fed my dogs dry kibble. But today we went back to waterlogging the feed with tepid water. This way, the dogs don't dehydrate as easily during training. In their otherwise excellent book, the seminal Dog Driver , Judy and Miki Collins claim soup gives dogs upset stomachs, something I've never seen the slightest indication of.
And now is the time for some musher's soup as well. I'm not the kind of guy who can eat a hearty dinner in the evening, and then go out on the trail. So from now on it's soup or a sandwich in the evening and warm meals at midday.
So I guess training season has begun now. For real.
